One of HCEI’s goals is to encourage collaboration, and we’d like to work with you.

Since 1992, the Health Cares Exchange Initiative, Inc. (HCEI) has been working in the United States to support and educate caring persons. HCEI uses a broad definition of "caregivers" including paid and non-paid persons who care about others, including administrators, educators, clergy, family members, partners, medical, dental and mental health providers. Initially our work involved AIDS caregivers, however a wide variety of persons have benefited from our programs.

Beginning 1996, HCEI held the first-ever nationwide focus groups with both paid and non-paid AIDS caregivers across the United States. Groups of caregivers in Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota and Massachusetts convened to express their experiences and also their needs.

A graduate of the University of Iowa and Interlochen Center for the Arts, R. Scott Boots founded the Health Cares Exchange Initiative, Inc. (HCEI) at Boston in 1992. He has worked as a training and administration consultant to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and Department of Social Services, and served as Chair of Pastoral Ministry and Co-Chair of the AIDS Support Committee at Trinity Church in the City of Boston. Scott has also completed intensive training sessions focussed on wellness at the Touch Therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA, and the Mind-Body Clinic at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Workshops have been presented nationwide.
