The Need for Caregiver Support

The HCEI Solution

 An Interactive Seminar
“Celebrating Ourselves: Beating Burnout”

Global Staff Retention and Resilience Since 1992
Persons who “care” for and about others – teachers, clergy, family members, health providers - are at risk for burnout, creating huge gaps in care and expertise.  But it is possible to respond to stress in healthy ways.  Nationwide focus groups held by HCEI confirm the need to celebrate the dedication and spirit of caring persons, while teaching self-preservation skills for the future.  This resilience skills building seminar teaches the symptoms of burnout, and reviews options and exercises to utilize in future responses to stress.

Across the globe thousands of persons have benefited from participating in HCEI's resilience skills-building seminar.  The document below details HCEI's international evidence-based measures of success:

Highlights from the report:

  • When asked to rate "How well do you identify stress?" on a 5 point scale, responses prior to the seminar averaged 3.46, compared to after the seminar,  when the average was  4.24.

  • When asked "How well do you understand options for responding to stress?", the pre- seminar responses averaged 3.06, while the post seminar average was 4.05.

Presentation Outline

HCEI held the first-ever nationwide focus groups to document the experiences and needs of caregivers.  In response, the seminar "Celebrating Ourselves: Beating Burnout" was developed to remind caring persons about ways to identify stress and respond in healthy ways.   In this engaging and empowering seminar, participants are given information about practical solutions to stress and encouraged through exercises and information to reconsider their own future responses to stress.
Workshop Objectives:

Participants are able to
  • identify symptoms of burnout and compassion fatigue
  • articulate who and what evokes their stress response
  • learn practical, proven solutions and exercises for stress reduction
  • communicate exercises and solutions to peers and clients
  • create a response plan for stress in their personal and professional lives
  • advocate for enhanced, effective “care for the caregiver” for peers, clients and themselves as back in their workplace and communities.

“Thank you, Scott.  You have made a huge difference to the mindset of this carer.  God bless your work.”
